The trial attorneys in our network are actively investigating claims that cancer could have been caused by the contamination of dry shampoo with benzene as well as other products, including spray-on deodorant and body sprays, as well as sunscreen. The recall is the latest in half a dozen so far this year, and the products affected by the benzene contamination include deodorants, hand sanitizers, and sunscreens.

Benzene probably made its way into those recalled products during manufacturing. Benzene was found in these products, which are no longer safe to use.

According to the company, the amount of benzene found in dozens of aerosol haircare products is not likely to create any health problems. If you used one of these recalled products, you might have exposed your skin, hair, or other tissues to elevated levels of benzene. Daily exposure to benzene from some of the dryer shampoos, which contain high levels of benzene, is not expected to have adverse health effects, Unilever noted in the Unilever recall announcement.

Unilever issued the dry shampoo spray product recall last week, including brands including Suave, Dove, and Nexxus Dry Shampoo Spray product Suave Dove Nexxus, because there is a risk that the spray may contain elevated levels of benzene; a known carcinogen. Unilever issued a recall of some Lot Codes for its Dove, Nexxus, Suave, TIGI (Rockaholic and Bed Head), as well as TRESemme dry shampoo aerosol products, following an internal investigation revealing a potentially elevated level of chemicals coming from the fuels which squirt product out of cans, according to the FDA-issued notice. Independent laboratory Valisure filed a petition to FDA asking the federal agency to recall multiple spray deodorants and antiperspirants. According to a proposed class-action lawsuit, the defendants, Procter & Gamble, and the FDA issued a December 17 recall for some Pantene.

Procter & Gamble issued a voluntary product recall for over 30 aerosol-sprayed dry shampoos and dryer conditioners. Over 30 aerosol-sprayed dry shampoos and dryer conditioners, warning the products may contain benzene, a cancer-causing chemical linked to leukemia. As an NPR report explained, Procter & Gamble has issued a recall of 32 different dry shampoos and dry conditioners after the company identified benzene in some of those products.

Procter & Gamble stated along with the recall, saying, In light of recent reports indicating trace amounts of benzene in certain aerosol-spraying products, we have begun an examination of our entire portfolio of aerosol products. Proctor & Gamble recalled dozens of aerosol hair care products, as the company found they contained benzene, a chemical known to cause cancer.

P&G also reported a similar recall of over a dozen aerosol deodorant sprays and perfumes under Old Spice and Secret brands last year, warning that the products may also contain benzene. The recall is Unilever’s second this year related to products possibly containing benzene. There are so far no reports of any illnesses. However, the company is rescinding these products with an abundance of caution. Four other companies recalled products this year after finding benzene in samples, and over half a dozen recalls occurred for similar reasons last year.

A complete list of the recalled shampoos, possibly contaminated with cancer-causing benzene, is available online from Unilever, a consumer products giant. Consumer products giant Unilever has issued a widespread recall of popular dry shampoos contaminated with benzene, warning the dangerous chemical can cause cancer. Unilever in March recalled two aerosol-based 24-hour antiperspirants made by the brand Suave, as they found benzene in samples in internal testing, according to CBS News. Unilever, in late March, recalled two Suave 24-hour protection aerosol antiperspirants after an internal review found slightly elevated levels of benzene in some samples.

In April 2022, Suave voluntarily recalled certain antiperspirants for which some samples found elevated benzene levels. Unilever U.S. issued a consumer-level voluntary product recall for selected Lot Codes of Dry Shampoo Aerosol products manufactured before October 2021 by Dove, Nexxus, Suave, TIGI (Rockaholic and Bed Head), and Tresemme because of possible high levels of benzene. The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) is voluntarily recalling 32 different dry shampoo and conditioner products from brands Pantene, Aussie, Herbal Essences, Waterlss, Hair Food, and Old Spice due to benzene.

According to the proposed class-action lawsuit, the defendant, Procter & Gamble, has essentially sold unsafe, valueless products because of the presence of benzene, which has been linked to leukemia and other cancers. The proposed class action suit claims that the toxic benzene makes some Pantene un brandable and unlawful to sell under federal law.
